Almost any patient who does not require surgery or ICU, can be safely and efficiently hospitalized at home. Doctors and nurses are on 24-hour duty to visit patients at home
Γιατροί επισκέπτονται τους ασθενείς όλες τις ώρες του 24ώρου

Doctor Visits

Doctors with equipped medical vehicles are ready to visit patients 24 hours a day

Nurse Visits

Registered nurses visit patients at home to perform procedures such as stoma and ulcer care, wound care, catheter replacement etc.

Hospital at Home

The patient is treated at home as if he were in a hospital...

Ordinary monitoring of a patient
"admitted" in Hospital-at-Home program

Regular monitoring of some important parameters are mandatory when we treat a patient at home with the system of home hospitalization, instead of admitting him/her to a hospital. It helps us to early detect life-threatening complications and act immediately to treat them:

FUL BLOOD COUNT: Information including number and type of leukocytes, which is an important index of the course of an infection's and its severity.

CRP: Very sensitive and reliable index of the course of an infection and criterium of successful choice of treatment.

POTASSIUM: A substance that is easily disturbed by a many abnormal conditions and by therapeutic interventions such as administration of diuretics, insulin and fluids. Small alterations of serum potassium levels can lead to life-threatening arrythmias.

SODIUM: Like potassium, serum sodium is an electrolyte the levels of which can be influenced by many conditions and treatment interventions. Although its disturbances are not so dangerous as those of serum potassium, they need attention as they can influence patient's level of consciousness. Furthermore the correction of such disturbances have to be done cautiously, as severe irreversible damage can be caused to the central nervous system during a rapid correction.

BUN-CREATININE: Renal function indexes. They are influenced in conditions of dehydration, acute and chronic renal failure. Their monitoring is often mandatory for early recognition of nefrotoxicity of medications.

BNP: Unfortunately this examination in many hospitals and emergency departments is not as usual as it should be. Increase of the levels of this peptide in blood serum indicates elevation of blood pressure in left atrium of the heart. Its monitoring in elderly patients who receive IV fluids helps to early detect pulmonary hypertention, a condition which, if remains without treatment, can lead to the life-threatening condition of pulmonary edema.

ARTERIAL BLOOD GASES: This examination can also be performed by portable analyzers. It shows the levels (partial pressures) of oxygen, carbon dioxide, pH and other parameters such as bicarbonate, lactate etc. It gives important information about renal and lung function and metabolic disorders caused by infections, diabetes and other causes.

These facilities and - most importantly - the 24-hour alertness of doctors and nurses and the 24-hour operation of laboratories for other examinations, make the treatment at home of almost any patient who does not require admission to ICU feasible and safe.

X-Rays at Home

X-rays are easily performed at home with the aim of digital technology without any patient discomfort. They are digitally developed during the visit and they can be send by e-mail to any recipient.

Bedside blood tests

Important blood examinations can be performed during a home doctor's visit in only a few minutes:

BUN, Glucose, Creatinine, Potassium, Sodium, Hematocret, Hemoglobin, Anion gap, Blood gases, Lactate, PT/INR, Troponine, BNP.

These blood tests help the doctor to promptly correct any severe abnormality such as water and electrolyte disorders, hyperglycemia etc. or to early diagnose life-threatening conditions such as MI or hypercapnia.
