Placement of central venous cathetersIn cases that IV drips and other medications have to be administered and superficial veins are not accessible, placement of central venous catheters is indicated. The sites at which we can place a central catheter are the following three:
The choise of vein depends on the patient's condition and other criteria. The presence of a central venous catheter is more than a route to easily administer IV fluids. It also helps us to monitor CVP (central venous pressure). CVP monitoring is essential for safe administration of IV fluids to elderly and/or crically ill patients.
Placement of a central catheter at home can be facilitated by doppler and ultrasound scanners.
X-ray is necessary to confirm proper placement and exclude any possible complication.
As the possibility of a complication (pneumothorax) is always present, some safety measures are required, particularly when the procedure is performed at home, such as prompt availability of a complete chest drainage set. |
X-Rays at Home
X-rays are easily performed at home with the aim of digital technology without any patient discomfort. They are digitally developed during the visit and they can be send by e-mail to any recipient. Bedside blood tests
Important blood examinations can be performed during a home doctor's visit in only a few minutes: |
