History
Home Care has its roots in the depth of our history. The first hospital reported in history was about 300-400 BC. Consequently it is obvious that any form of patient care before that time was offered at patient's dwelling place. However it seems that the first organized provision of Home Care in western countries appeared during Crusades.
In the US the first associations appeared between 1885 and 1889.
It is also quite interesting that only the homeless, the poor and the techniciens were treated in the hospitals of Syros (island of Greece) and Istanbul before the 2nd Warld War. The more wealthy people were treated at home, as they could afford to move doctors and nurses from hospital to home!
Nowadays millions of people in the world enjoy some form of Home Care [9].
USA is the country with the longest tradition in home care provision. Today in this country there are more than 20,000 Home Care organizations.
